Pra Bua Khem is also known by other names in Thailand; Pra Mokkaleebudtradisathaera, Pra Geesanaak Upakut, Pra Upakut, Pra Bua Khem, and in Burma, 'Pra Phong Dtor Oo'. All of these names refer to the same Buddha.
2Cm high, 1.2 Cm wide. Sacred Powder is inserted into the base of the amulet for attraction of riches, and protection from evil.
Pra Upakut was an Enlightened Arahant with incredibly stron special powers (ittirit) of Choke Lap (luck and fortunes).
Pra Upakut was born just after the times of the Buddha, as the son of a wealthy merchant of the city of Mithila. Their business was that of perfume selling, which the family had rin for generations.
when he ordained as Pra Upakut Thaera, the King Asoke, who was the great Indian King who was a Buddhist, and campaigned to restore all the Buddhist shrines and relics gave him an important role to play. He was asked to be the presiding Master of Ceremonies for the restorations of relics, and to protect the ceremony from being disturbed by the Wasawathee Mara (Paya Mara), who was trying to destroy the ceremony to nullify the magic. But he was inferior to the powers of Pra Upakut Maha Thaera. He was also in charge of choosing and sending Bhikkhus who were able to preach, to go out and spread the Buddha Sasana in other countries.
The traditional preference for worshipping an image of Pra Upakut/Pra Bua Khem Maha Lap was very widespread in Myanmar, Mon, Lanna and Khmer cultures. In Rangoon (Myanmar) there are many tales of people who say they made offerings of money in the alms bowl of the Pra Upakut statue, and became very rich thereafter.
One important aspect of the creation and empowerment of Pra Upakut amulets is that the Master of Ceremonies performing the empowerment should be able to call Pra Upakut Thaera to come and preside and watch over the Ritual. This must be done, for if not, the Maras will come to destroy the ceremony.
Pra Ajarn Waen, of Wat Pracha Samakee Tam, Tambon Hlub, in Kalasin made and empowered these Pra Bua Khem (Upakut) amulets as Puttanussadti to remember the Arahants, and to endow the wearer with Choke Lap lucky magic to increase their wealth and do away with poverty, protect from dangers and evil forces.
The meaning of the Pra Upakut Amulet has two perspectives;
