Rian Dhamma Dharma Coin for Self Observation and Introspective Mindfulness Practice (Vipassana) - filled with proverbial reminders of the principles of Kammathāna Mindfulness Practice, as taught by the Forest Tradition Tudong Lineage of Luang Phu Mun Puritadto. A most auspicious and inspiring amulet to wear, and be mindful of the meaning of the words contained within its Sacred Geometry, the Rian Tam Chai Dtuean Sadti Hai Pijarana Dtua Eng Dhamma Coin, from Luang Phu Bun Hnaa, Tammatino, of Wat Pha Sodthipol
The front face of the coin has a Sacred Yantra in the form of a 12 Petalled Lotus, as seen in the Great Yantra of the Metta Maha Niyom Pantheon of the Kampir Yant 108, such as seen in the Yant Maha Mongkol, Yant Maha Niyom, and the Yant Mongkut Pra Putta Jao Buddha's Crown Yantra. The center of the Lotus Yantra has the word 'Rū', which means 'Know', or 'Be Aware Of'.
Around the word 'Rū' (to Know) on the inner circle, are 4 short phrases encircling, which say; 'Mai Saweuy' (To Not Indulge Oneself in the Pleasures of the Senses), 'Mai Sēp' (To Not Indulge), 'Phū Rū Mai Prung Dtaeng' (The Knower Is Not Conditioned in His Thoughts) 'Mai Mī Ubpathān Nai Phū Rū' (No Hindrances or Cravings in the heart of the Knower).
Each petal of the Yantra has Inscriptions with Proverbial Meaning inserted, which, like in the previous phrases, have stand-alone meaning, as well as fitting together in context with each other as a complete method of applied Mindfulness practice, which say;
(Small Outer Petals starting at 21:00 in Clock Direction); 'Din' (Earth) 'Nam' (Water) 'Lom' (Air) 'Fai' (Fire) 'Nāma' (Name) and 'Rūpa' (Form).
(Large Inner Petals starting at 24:00 in Clock Direction); 'Dtā Hen Rūp' (Eyes See Form), 'Hū Yin Siang' (Ears Hear Sounds), 'Jamūg Dai Gling' (Nose Senses Odours), 'Lin Rab Ros' (Tongue can Taste Flavours), 'Gāy Thūg Sampas' (Bodily Form Senses Touch).
Around the lower part of the circumference of the rim of the coin, are the words 'Rian Tamma Chai Dtuean Sadti Hai Pijāranā Dtua Ēng', which is the name of this amulet.
The rest of the upper section of the coin along the rim, has three further phrases which read from left to right; 'Mai Hen Gae Dtua' (Not Self Centered), 'Tugkhang Anijjang Anadt-Dtā' (Dhukkam/Suffering Aniccam/Impermanence Anatta/Not-Self), and 'Mai Pramāt' (Not Careless in Behaviour, Words and Thoughts).
The rear face of the coin has a further series of proverbial messages as reminders of the path of practice, which are contained within an eight sided Yantra which points out relevant aspects of practice to be mindful of, as an Ideological Diagram of Vipassanā Kammathāna Practice, which is revealed within the Yantra, as the Eightfold Path. The inner circle in the center of the coin has the words Sammā Vimutti (Right Emancipation/Liberation) which is one of the two fruits of the attainment of the 8-fold Path The eight sided section encircling the inner circle, has the word 'Sammā Yāna' (Right Knowledge) the other of the two fruits of successful attainment of the 8-Fold Path.
The next segment encircling has four parables underlining the realisation of the 4 Noble Truths, which are the basis for Enlightenement; 'Tugkh Kuan Hai Rū Hai Graja' (Dhukka - One Should Be Mindful to Know the Truth of Suffering), 'Samutay Kuan Sa Hai Laeng' (The causes of Suffering, should be allowed to dry up), 'Nirote Kuan Jaeng Hai Job' (Nirodha - The Extinction of Suffering, should be Manifested), 'Mak Kuan Ob Hai Jaroen' (Maggha - The Path - samma-ditthi (right understanding)samma-sankappa (right thought), samma-vaca (right speech), samma-kammanta (right action), samna-ajiva (right livelihood), samma-vayama (right effort), samma-sati (right awareness), samma-samadhi (right concentration).
On the outer circle of the rim of the coin are then the following parables - On the Top; 'Samadta Ker Kwām Thūg Thawng' (Meditation is the Right Way). Either side upper right and left; 'Kwām Chua' (upper right side - Evil) 'Kwām Dī' (upper left side - Goodness), Either side lower right and left; 'Aguson' (Agusalā - lower right side - Inauspiciousness) 'Guson' (Kusala - lower left side - Auspiciousness), and on the lower area of the outer rim, are the words 'Rū jag Por Gor Sukh Tuk Sathān' (To know to Be Satisfied and not Desire more than Necessary, is to be Happy in all Circumstances).
Considering the Powerful Dhamma contained within this Sacred Amulet, it is indeed an incredibly useful tool for Mindfulness Practice, for any dedicated practitioner to wear as a reminder to maintain diligent efforts to develop sustained attention in Meditation and Dhamma Practice..
Luang Phu Bun Hnaa Tammatino was a great Gaeji Ajarn Guru Master of the Thai Forest Tudong Tradition, and the longest surviving direct lineage apprentice of the Luang Phu Mun Lineage. This means, that he was the very last of all the monks who practised under the direct tutelage of Luang Phu Ajarn Mun himself to pass away, making him the last of his kind.
Luang Phu Bun Hnaa of Wat Pha Sodthiphol in Sakon Nakorn was a Tudong Master who was very diligent in his practice of the Dhamma Vinaya Buddhist Canon (227 rules of monks), and in his Vipassana Kammathana Tudong Mindfulness Practices.
He was one of the great monks of his Era whose greatness came from his purity of practice, and his faithfulness to the duty of teaching the tru path of Buddhist practice to his Devotees, and leading them to the end of Suffering
It is said that Luang Phu Bun Hnaa was the last living master to remain on earth after all the other direct apprentices of Luang Phu Mun had passed, and his passing marked the transition to the once-removed generation of looksit, who received this lineage teachings from Kroo Ba Ajarn, such as Luang Phu Bun Hnaa himself.
Luang Phu Bun Hnaa is also incidentally the true Nephew of the Great Luang Phu Ajarn Fan Ajaro of Wat Pha Udom Somporn in Panna, Pannanikom, Sakon Nakorn, who was also another Great Tudong Forest Master of the Luang Phu Mun lineage.
Luang Phu Bun Hnaa is considered one of the great Buddhist Masters, whose merits were made not with Sorcery, but with the True Dhamma Practice, and as a Great Kroo Ba Ajarn Dhamma Teacher of the Vipassana Mindfulness Kammathana method.
Luang Phu Bun Hnaa was born in 2475 BE. He was first ordained at the age of 12 at Wat Jaeng in Ban Nong Doke, in Pannanikom, Sakon Nakorn. During his stay at the temple, he met the Great Pra Ajarn Orn, who was residing in the forest cemetery nearby to the temple. Luang Phu Bun Hnaa was then able to submit his application to Pra Ajarn Orn Yana Siri for apprenticeship to him in Kammathana Tudong Practices. He then began to follow Pra Ajarn Orn back to Wat Pha Ban Nong Pher to meet Luang Phu Mun. He repeated the journey with Pra Ajarn Orn many times, to advance his practice of Kammathana Vipassana.
As he was developing his practice under Ajarn Mun, he also met many other great Kroo Ba Ajarn during his Tudong journeys, including Pra Ajarn Chorp Thana Samo, Pra Ajarn Dter Ajara Tammo, The Great Pra Ajarn Lee Tamma Taro, Luang Phu Hwaen Sujjino, Pra Ajarn Sin Puttajaro, and Pra Ajarn Jam Maha Bunyo.
Luang Phu Bun Hnaa liked to teach his friends and disciples to be mindful, and to have 'Sati Sampacanya' (attentive focus and mindful awareness). He would always say 'Hai Bpen Phu Mee Sadti', which means 'always be aware of yourself'. This is in fact the heart of the Kammathana practice, to be mindful of the body, the behaviour, the speech, the mind and its power over us, the moods and feelings and their power over us, and to use this mindfulness to be skilful, and avoid being unskilful.
This is the way to evade bad Karma, and was one of the many great teachings given by Luang Phu Bun Hnaa. he gave this teaching in lineage transmission which he received from Pra Ajarn Orn Yana Siri , who in turn passed it down to Luang Phu Bun Hnaa from his Kroo Ba Ajarn, the Great Pra Ajarn Sao Gandtasilo, who was the other main figure in Thai Tudong Forest Sangha, along with Luang Phu Mun Puritadto.
Suphasit - Proverb of Luang Phu Bun Hnaa;
Gāy Sujaridt, Wajī Sujaridt, Manō Sujaridt
(Honest Actions, Honest Speech, Honest Thoughts and Intentions)
Gāy Borisut Wajī Borisut, Manō Borisut
(Pure Actions, Pure Speech, Pure Mind and Heart)
Despite his true leaning towards the pure path of Vipassana Kammathana Tudong Practice, Luang Phu Bun Hnaa did make amulets on occasions, something almost unavoidable for any Thai Master Monk, who will be constantly beseeched by the Devotees to provide a source of spiritual inspiration and something to bring peace of mind.
But Luang Phu Bun Hnaa provides true Buddhanussati with his amulets, which point towards the Buddhist path of Practice, and the true Buddha-Dhamma, and do not teach Greed and Selfishness, rather, Introspection, and Self Discovery of the Spiritual path.
A perfect example of this is Luang Phu Bun Hnaa's wonderfully auspicious 'Rian Tam Chai Dtuean Sadti Hai Pijarana Dtua Eng' Dhamma Wheel Coin which has a Sacred Geometry design containing a series of proverbial statements, intended to assist the practitioner to maintain the proper mindfulness kammathana practice and attain sustained meditative self control. This in turn leads to a skilful life free of bad Karma and regrets, and increased good Karma through skilful acts
The coin contains a wealth of Buddha-Dhamma and points to keep in mind to maintain one's good practice. Each side contains a different set of messages contained within the symettric Yantra, which point us towards the eventual attainment of the Noble Eightfold Path.
On the 6th April 2559 BE, at 14:52 pm, Luang Phu Bun Hnaa, abbot of Wat Pha Sodthipol passed away peacefully at the age of 84 years old, 9 months and 1 day, after 64 years of ordination in the Buddhist Sangha. he had been treated for the few years before for lung Cancer at Srti Nakarin Hospital, but in the end fell to the illness. His teachings of Kammathana Practice remain to Guide Us along the Path to Nibbana, as properly taught by the Buddha, and Expounded through the Tai Tudong Forest Sangha Lineage, of which Luang Phu Nun Hnaa was the last direct first generation Lineage Master to receive teachings from Luang Phu Mun.
