In Hindu mythology, Jambhala is known as Kubera. Jambhala is also believed to be an emanation of Avalokitesvara or Chenrezig, the Bodhisattva of Compassion.
There are five different wealth Jambhalas; each has his own practice and mantra to help eliminate poverty and create financial stability. “Dzam” means “Deity or gathering”. “Bhah” means “gold or wealth”. “La” means “to honor”. “Dzambhala” means “Precious Golden Deity, who gathers or brings the wealth of spirituality or Dharma and material security or accomplishment to our lives”
Two of the most powerful of the four celestial animals are the dragon and phoenix. The dragon and phoenix are the perfect couple in Feng Shui. It symbolizes that the man and spouse will stay together through thick and thin, and that love and passion will last till the end. They ensure that a newlywed couple will be blessed with both patriach and matriach luck, outstanding achievement in life and great fortune and prosperity with many filial offsprings. Mahayana tradition, describes the origin of the Jambhala Wealth Gods. It is said that a Lama named Atisha, was wandering the wilderness, and stumbled upon a starving man who was dying from malnutrition. He tried to find food for the man but was unsuccessful, so Lama Atisha cut some flesh from his own body, and offered it to the dying man, who refused to eat it.
The Lama Atisha then sat down next to to the dying man to comfort him with mutual support. At that point there was a bright light appeared, and the Buddha of Compassion, the Thousand-Armed Avalokiteshwor Chenrezig stood before Atisha. The Buddha told Lama Atisha that he was going to manifest himself as the God of Wealth, Jambhala, and assure that those in poverty would be releived from their sufferings.
